I consider this piece to be a bit different from most portraits, because I didn't just draw a face, I tried to capture a person, a character, a personality. I guess, modern art is a bit more permissive when it comes to ways of expression so that's why I went vectorial.
The model is Misha. Found her while browsing trough Cristiana's gallery. [link] Was really fun to work with her, she's nice to have around. See what she looks like, here. [link]
Now, I've stated I wanted to portray a whole person, not just draw a face, that's why this piece is composed of different elements. She's an open person, that's why I didn't strive too hard for contours. She's a ton of laughs, really nice to hang out with - that's why I went for the positive stuff, such as wings and hearts. She studied geography and works in tourism - that's why the global map and thei airplane. Also, she's into house music - that's why I drew the turntable. First time I met her she almost threw a knife into my eye (by mistake) and when she walks on the street she keeps bumping into me (yeah, somebody touched me and didn't turn to ash - wouldn't you know it?) So I said she has a cute type of reckless acting - that's why I also chose to insert ink blots.
Further more, she's with her head a bit in the clouds (see top side of the drawing for that) and she may change her will really fast, turn around 180 degrees instantly - that's why the curved arows. If there's one thing I haven't argumented yet and you're probably wondering about it - it's the dragon - well, that dragon looks like the nasty tattoos thugs have around these parts. Why did I use it - well, I say that to make it alone in this city (study, sustain your own self, work etc) you've got to be pretty tough (have brass bollocks even ), and since thugs are a symbol of toughness, I chose this analogy via one of the elements that defines them.
I've worked with different shades of blue on the portrait because one blue important element of our lives is the sky, and just as the sky she can be nice and serene one moment, but if you make a wrong step, there's gonna be thunder and lightning. Wham! And also it's here favorite color. There I've said it all
Many thanks go out to the model. I swear, it's so freakin hard to find a model nowadays, as a graphic designer. If you're a photographer you've got models coming out of your... ears, but when I go to someone inspiring and say "Hey, can I draw you?" most of the times it's like "Hey, I've got rabbies - wanna make out?" That's life for ya
